
Jesus Fuertes
Jesus Fuertes is without a doubt one of
today's world-class masters. Born in Madrid Spain the year of 1938 during the Spanish Civil
War Spanish-Cuban Jesus Fuertes was the son of brilliant bohemian poet who
associated with many of Europe's most
prominent artists. He was constantly surrounded with the many influences of
surrealist Salvador Dali, poet-dramatist Frederico Garcia Lorca, and renowned
painter Pablo Picasso. At the early age of 15, Fuertes traveled to
Berlin to
display his painting at the Young
European Painters Exposition.
He was awarded second place and recognized as
one of the emerging avant-garde painters of the time. With that
Salvador Dali
introduced him to father of the Surrealist Movement Andre Breton, who
according
to his biography, became his benefactor. Jesus Fuertes provides a
profound knowledge
of the fundamental influences that affected artists and intellectuals
all over
the world. Which lead him to Pablo Picasso where they met in France and
started his first
material in Neo-Cubism. His mixture of geometric shapes and bright
colors Picasso
was overwhelmed with the young Latino's undeniable talent, and kept a
close
relationship since. Picasso himself recognized Fuertes as a true
"genius". After the first showing of his works in New York, Fuertes
left for Italy
to receive first prize in Rome
for his painting Torneo Medieval in
1963. Various expositions after, Fuertes became a well known painter, traveling
to in 1979 to Sao Paulo where he lived and developed one of the first forms of
"Tropical Neo-Cubism" where he eventually attracted the attention of modern art
collectors, museums and the general public. In 1996, Fuertes establishes a studio in Miami, FL.
Many of his works were acquired by private collectors and major museums all
over the world. His works can be found in Queen
Sofia of Spain's Museum in Madrid, the Beaux Arts Museum in Brussels,
Belgium as well as Embassy Gallery in Miami. Sadly enough he suffered a heart attack and
died at the age of 68 on Sunday
June, 18 2006 in Miami,
Fl. As brilliant of artist as he was he will always be a respected latin
influence in the world of Art. His lifetime achievements and influences
portrayed in his colorful works of art will inspire artists and people forever.
